GW2: Character Slots & Creation
A brief article on the Guild Wars 2 character creation process.
Character Slots & Transfer
You start off with 5 character slots that are tied to your account, you can transfer all your characters to different servers.
Extra slots can be bought for 800 gems in the Black Lion Trading House, this cost me £8.50.
You can unlock up to 20 character slots in total.
To transfer characters during the new release period it is free and without delay, although later there will be a cost involved and a week cooldown.
To create a character click the Create button at the bottom-right of the screen.
First you will have to select your race.
There are 5 races available:
- and Sylvari
Left-click on the race you want to play as and press the next button.
I am a fan of the art used.
Next you will be asked to choose your gender.
Left-click on the gender you want to play as and press the next button.
I like the way it is part of the same image.
You will be asked which profession you want to play as.
There are 8 professions available to all races:
- and Mesmer
Left-click on each of the professions to see a preview of them in armor and see a description at the bottom of the screen. Press next when you have chosen.
It is important to note that all classes are effectively DPS and are equally as useful in doing everything.
You will be asked if you wish to customize your appearance. Some of the options will vary by race.
You can customise:
- Body Features such as Height and Physique and for Norn you can customize the Fur.
- Head Options such as Hair Styles & Color, Face and for Norn you can customize the Horns.
- Face Details such as Eye customization, for Norn Muzzle and Nose customization as well as Ear and Horns customization.
- Armor Dyes this sets the initial colour of your character’s armor, it can be changed at any time in the game.
Once you have decided on your looks, click next to continue.
Next you will be asked to select your background, this affects your personal story quests as you progress through the game.
You will be presented with a couple of different questions.
You will have a number of options, click each to see a description in the bottom.
Click next to continue.
You will be asked for your character’s name.
The important thing of note here is that you can have spaces in the name, which allows for surnames.
The entire name is taken in the unique search so you can have for example characters called “Etaew One” and “Etaew Two”.
Click next to continue.
Your story will be displayed to you in a series of pictures and voiceover. Ending with a rendering of your character.
You will then be taken to the tutorial zone.
