DAoC: Gameplay – NPC Colors

A Dark Age of Camelot guide to the colors above non-player characters (NPC’s) heads.

When you encounter an NPC, whether these be people giving you quests, or monsters you are trying to slay. They will have a color above their head.

The color is determined by if they are attackable or not, and if they are, what is their level compared to yours.

Unattackable

Teal

These NPC’s are friendly and unattackable.

Their names will be displayed in a Teal color.

Note:

These friendly NPC’s will still have a GreyPurple color assigned when you target them, so you can see their relative level.

Attackable

Grey

It is significantly weaker than you, and can be easily defeated with almost no effort.

Enemies with Grey names will provide no experience.

Example:

If the target was Level 1 and you were Level 5 their name would appear Grey.

Green

It is much weaker than you, and can be easily defeated.

Enemies with Green names will provide a small amount of experience.

Example:

If your target was Level 3 and you were Level 5, the target would appear Green.

Blue

It is only slightly weaker than you, and should be reasonably easy to defeat.

Enemies with Blue names will provide slightly less than a normal amount of experience.

Example:

If your target was Level 4 and you were Level 5, the target would appear Blue.

Yellow

It is an even match to you.

Enemies with Yellow names may be a challenge, and depending on your skill, armor and weaponry you might have an equal chance of victory or defeat.

It will provide a normal amount of experience.

Example:

If your target was Level 5 and you were Level 5, the target would appear Yellow.

Orange

It is more powerful than you, but only slightly.

Enemies with Orange names may be risky but not impossible depending on the advantage of skill, armor and weaponry.

It will provide an above normal amount of experience.

Example:

If your target was Level 6 and you were Level 5, the target would appear Orange.

Red

It is much more powerful than you.

Enemies with Red names will usually result in the death of your character but is not impossible, however these enemies must be approached with caution.

This difficultly will provide no extra experience.

Example:

If your target was Level 7 and you were Level 5, the target would appear Red.

Purple

It is vastly more powerful than you.

Even with the help of a group, a creature with a Purple name will be difficult for you to defeat.

This difficulty will provide no extra experience.

Example:

If your target was Level 10 and you were Level 5, the target would appear Purple.
