DAoC: Gameplay – Quest Icons

A Dark Age of Camelot guide to the Quest Icons you will encounter in the game.

History

Classic

When DAoC launched and for many years after, you had to talk to each individual NPC in order to find out if they had a quest.

Back then the game was focused more about grinding mobs than progressing through a quest chain.

First Indicator

In Patch 1.73 they added a visible, but still difficult to spot indicator, a yellow ring at the feet of a NPC.

New Icons

New User Journey Quest Icon

This icon was added in Patch 1.110 and shows a Detailed Yellow Celtic Knot rotating above NPCs which offer quests that are part of the New User Journey.

Lesson Quest Icon

This icon was added in Patch 1.110 and shows a Yellow Open Book rotating above a NPCs which offer gameplay tips.

Classic Quest Icon

This icon was added in Patch 1.95 and shows a Yellow Celtic Knot rotating above NPCs which offer older quests.

Pending Quest Goal Icon

This icon was added in Patch 1.110 and shows a Grey Celtic Knot rotating above NPCs which are part of a quest step.

Quest Completion Icon

This icon was added in Patch 1.109 and shows a Blue Celtic Knot above any NPC which you can talk to in order to complete a quest.

Thoughts

I am glad DAoC has enabled the more user-friendly icons, although some hardcore fans will disagree with me.

It would be nice if it was easier to distinguish the target mobs for your quests, indicators on all mobs would be too much, so I’m not sure how this would be handled.

I would also like to see the teleporter effect to be more visible, whether thats a new icon rotating above their heads, or simply make the blue teleporter ring at their feet appear above their heads.
